What can you use the app for?

Trulia is a website dedicated entirely to real estate. The average home buyer or seller can turn to Trulia to search for properties and gain insight and advice. The application includes three search options. Users can find properties that are for sale by location, price range, type, number of bedrooms and bathrooms and square footage. A rental search is also available and uses similar criteria. The recently sold search can help home sellers determine the value of their home based on how much comparable homes are selling for in their community. A mobile version of Trulia is available for iPhone, iPad and Android users. Informational resources help users learn about mortgages as well as home buying and selling. A local info button provides access to the foreclosure center. Users who are seeking professional assistance can find property managers, real estate agents, brokers and builders through the site.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Trulia was founded in May of 2004 by Pete Flint and Sami Inkinen. The application was intended to provide users with a residential real estate search engine that provided valuable information as well as property listings. The company has gained significant popularity. Rumors that Google was in talks to acquire Trulia were going around in December of 2009.

What are the differences to other apps?

Trulia offers users access to many property listings in a wide range of cities and communities. The application is very appealing because it is focused on the average consumer. Whether the user is looking to buy or sell a home, they can find a wealth of information and connect with professionals who can help them through Trulia. The application includes three searches that are tailored to the many real estate needs of the site’s visitors.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Trulia appeals to its users with a lively bright green color scheme and plain, white background. A new visitor may notice that there are many tools, links and other items presented on the homepage. A few moments of inspection reveals that the layout is well organized and relatively easy to navigate. The user can get right to work with the three search tabs, which are shown right on the homepage.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can create a Trulia account by clicking on the black and white “Sign Up” button found in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage (inside the green banner). The registration form is found along the right hand side of the following page. The user can click the blue and white “Sign In with Facebook” button at the top of the form if they prefer to register the easy way. Those who would like to create a new account can do so by providing a name, email address, password, location and user type. A small box at the bottom of the form is automatically selected to sign the user up for real estate news and tips. The user must uncheck the box to opt out of email updates.

What does it cost to use the application?

Trulia.com is available to all new users for free. There is no subscription fees required to create an account and search the site. All users are given access to all current features, articles and search tools. Trulia’s mobile versions are also available for free. Of course the user may spend thousands of dollars on a new home, but this is related to their purchase and not their Trulia account.

Who would you recommend the application to?

The average consumer who is searching for a home, property or rental as well as anyone selling or renting out a property will get the most use out of Trulia. The application speaks to consumers in terms that the average person can understand. The three convenient search tools make it even easier to find properties for sale, rent or to see how much local properties have been sold for.

  • Search for rentals as well as properties for sale
  • Learn about local foreclosures
  • Gather information on real estate topics
  • Search for brokers, real estate agents and related professionals
